Types of Leadership

On this class we continue with the same topic, leadership, today we talk about Kurt Lewing and the professor mention that he was a recognized psychologist that said that there are three notables styles of leadership, the first one is the autocratic , is an style of leadership that is characterized by the individual control of the leader over all decisions and a small contribution of the group members, autocratic leaders usually make decisions based on their ideas and judgment and rarely accept of the rest, the second style is known as democratic, this style is characterized by have a leader that encourage people to participate, letting employees decide more about their functions and have sufficient powers to make decisions, also the employees can express their opinion and aren’t limited to receive orders, another important thing is to not fall into ochlocracy, two key aspects in democratic leadership is the communication and empowerment. The last of the three styles of leadership we talk was Laissez-Faire, that in my opinion this isn’t a type of leadership because if you don’t care about what others do as a leader then you don’t are leader, to be a leader you have to care and help the people you are leader of. Going back to the democratic style, I want to go deepen on empowerment, that refers to the process were people strengthen their abilities and confidences. These quality will be gained when the personnel received the opportunity to solve problems of the organization.
